The aim of the project was optimization of the continuous casting mould shape for thin slab casting. At the exit of the mould slab should have appropriate properties.

Continuous casting is a process in which the molten steel flows into the mold and solidifies. The cross-section of the mold for the continuous casting of a thin ingot is not rectangular, but is in the middle of upper part enlarged due to the funnel. Since the steel along the walls of the mold solidifies, it experiences loads due to changes in the shape along the mold height. Ingot should ingot appropriate properties at the mould exit and finding appropriate shape of mold is therefore an objective of the project.
